Would You Really Let Your Child Wear This?

Before i start this post, let me preface it by saying i LOVE Gwen Stefani.
I love her personality, persistance and all the passion she infuses in her music,
LAMB bags, role as wife and mother...love it.

But and this is a big BUT i came across her Target clothing line and i had to scratch my head and say,
"Huh? Really Gwen, these are what you came up with?"
I know the name is Harajuku but the kids that will be wearing these are real kids NOT cartoon characters.
And you may have fashioned these clothing items after your children's own sense of style...
but your kids are not regular everyday kids and you were making clothes for regular kids right?
Not halloween costumes for mini rockstars.

I mean really WHERE is this little guy going?
I know ONLY one little boyd that wears a bow-tie
and i don't even know if he would wear a tartan bow-tie!

Most of these clothing items all look like Halloween costumes.
Where is this little girl going?

I mean this outfit could be cute BUT it just has such a hard look
that i feel doesn't belong on a little girl.

I am not a mom yet but i remember when my little niece and nephew were kids,
their mom would put them in clothing that were cute and age appropriate.
And Gwen managed to have some in her collection but sadly NOT enough.

Doesn't this little girl look like a normal-looking little girl?
If i was a mom i would definitely NOT be heading to Target to purchase any of these items
except for maybe the cute dress above.

What do you think of Gwen's clothing line?
Am i completely out of the loop because i don't have a mommy-card yet?

  1. I'm not too sure about the little boys outfit, but I think the ones for girls are super cute...so much better than some of the hoochie looking little girls clothes I've seen other places. I'd rather them look like cartoons characters than little street walkers or in toddlers & tiaras type outfits lol

  2. I personally love the line. I saw it just yesterday in Target, and, honestly, if that panda hoodie had been in my size, I would have bought it. Everything Gwen touches is gold! :)

  3. I think the bow-tie outfit for the boy is a bit much. But the girls outfits are all pretty spot on with what I've seen. Hubs and I are always amazed at how kids dress these days or rather how parents dress their kids. The tutus are a big thing I'm gathering cause I see those on the regular. Even when I walked into Lulu Lemon the other day all the attendants were wearing them. Really this line is a hell of a lot better than some I've seen. We were browsing a baby store the other day half the toddlers were in booty shorts!! Ripped denim mini skirts and lots of black. Growing up my mom didn't let me wear black.

  4. Awww! I think a lot of the pieces are really nice. If I had a child I wouldn't put them in the full on outfits that she has, but I'd take a piece here and there and put it on the kid.

  5. I think the line is a bit extra and great for parents who like to dress their kids up.

I agree w/ sinful sundays. A piece here and there is cute, but not in the full on getups these kids have goin on.

  6. I saw this and sqealed -- loved that kid in his plaid pants and hat! I'm all about wear what you want with kids (I don't have them yet, but my years as a preschool teacher has me on the boat) -- You want to wear some crazy plaid thing with a cowboy hat, go for it. First, you're finding your identity and as long as you are soliciting for phone numbers with what you put on, I'm a-ok with it!

  7. I don't really have an opinion on the line yet. I've seen pictures but I need to visit target to see them to really form an opinion. It seems like some things can be a little too much paired together but separating some of the pieces can make it more everyday wearable. You're right not all kids will be seen out wearing these.

  8. I think some of the pieces are okay. I would have to see the full clothing line. My son is a busy little boy and just loves to wear white t shirt and sweat pants. lol
So unless we have a special occasion, I just let him be comfortable.

  9. I just don't understand... kids are always messing up their clothes. Why would you want to get clothes like these when they're bound to get messed up?

  10. I think most designers now are trying to make kids, especially little girls look older. I'm not sure why anyone would do this. Let kids be kids. They need to be wearing play clothes and little girl dresses, not tight jeans and grown up tops.

  11. Yikes! I agree with you. That little girl's dress was cute... and the blazer on the little boy would be cute paired with something else for a Christmas outfit or something. But I'm not a fan of the other stuff. Like you said, not really age appropriate. Or just plain ugly!

  12. I like the pieces in their own way, not necessarily styled the way the kids are in these pictures. I'm definitely interested in the line because I like creative looking outfits for myself and kids. My son really likes wearing bowties and if he had a matching hat I'm sure he would love it. I like the tutu skirt and leg warmers too.

  13. Totally agree with you! You had me cracking up at "halloween costumes for mini rock stars"! A lot of little girls where tutus these days. I am not a fan of that craze yet. I like the last look though...

  14. I think the girl outfits resemble costumes too much. And as for the boys outfits they look normal to me but I'm that mom who sent her 4 month old son to daycare today in brown plaid pants, long sleeved button down shirt with matching sweater vest and coordinating brown plaid hat. Just because he's a baby doesn't mean he can't look adorable at all times.

  15. Pretty weird if you asked me. They do look like Halloween costumes. The tutu and bunny ears....??? Bizarre.

  16. WOW so many comments actually like the line...I was a little afraid at first to reply as I too loved the line based on these pictures....especially the one with the dark pink skirt that you said was a hard look for a little girl.

I do hear what you're saying it is def a strong look but I think you either know the personality of your child or you don't. I mean if she's shy and a wall flower then yeah this is a hard look...but if she's bustling with energy and personality I think it's adorable.

I usually dress my daughter like this when we're heading to NYC for the day as I think the outfit totally goes with the vibe of the city.

The last two times we headed to the city she dressed like this, (though the first outfit she was none to thrilled about and honestly had to be bribed, but the she loved it by the time we got home, go figure!)

Lunch with Friends Ruby Foos NYC this outfit she LOVED!

  17. I like some of the outfits, like the one you indicated. maybe I wouldn't but LAMB outfits for my little one, because it is too weird, I like Ralph Lauren kids' outfits.

I recently bought something from their collection.

  18. I think some of the pieces are okay separate paired down with a regular pair of jeans or top.

I understand what you are saying. I tend to want to push the envelope a little with my own taste but i have to watch to not dress my baby too grown.

I think its grown up style for little kids. Sometimes it works sometimes it does go overboard. I think there is indeed a thin line.

  19. I wasn't aware of it until I read this post.
Some of the items are ok - but I usually weigh how it's made, fabric, cost, and cute factor before I decide to buy.
The first time I bought a black dress for one of my daughters both grandparents complained because in their time children did not wear black, and black is for funerals, etc. but I thought the dress was cute. I guess you always have to keep YOUR child in mind.

  20. I had no idea she was doing a children's line at Target. Honestly, it has sparked my interest and I want to go look at it!! Gwen's style is a little out-there, to me anyway, so I would totally expect this. Some of the pieces are definitely unusual!

  21. I think that it works in bits and pieces. The whole get up could be a bit much. Pairing something that's "extra" with something simple would work in this case.

  22. We're hoping to have a baby soon but I've already decided that we will not be spending a fortune on clothes! I've noticed that babies and kiddies grow so darn fast as well!

  23. I agree with the above poster, it could work in bits and pieces. I actually love the plaid hat! I am going to have to check it out in the stores now to see it in person.

  24. I love it all. Tutus are really in for little girls right now. And the plaid boys outfit is just too cute!! She did a great job of meshing comfortable fabrics with over the top style.

  25. When I first saw the line I wasn't interested. Then my 7 & 9 yro daughters saw it and was like, ohhh mommy we like that and that and even that one too lol. So, I'm actually considering it smh!

  26. I think they're so cute! However there is a time and place for everything. Perhaps a tootoo for your little girl isnt appropriate to wear to school or church, but just a weekend that might be a cute change for her. Then again, I dont have kids so what do i know! lol

  27. I'm loving all the different opinions ladies!! And I must agree that perhaps some pieces worn separately would be appropriate perhaps. I do agree that some clothes are even more inappropriate so compared to Gwen'd lines...crazy and and a little cooky is good!!

  28. I kinda love it too ;) Esecially the last dress. I dont think you will find my sons in plaid, but its pretty funky.

  29. Ehh. not a fan either. I wouldnt personally have my kids wear those clothes. Maybe some of the pieces separate from each other.

  30. I would say Gwen's line is very rocker style and it's not for everyone! If I had kids, I may pick up 1 or 2 pieces, like the hoodie, or the skirt but definitely not the whole look. It's a bit much...

  31. Ok I love Gwen too. IDK. IDK. Some of it is ok but some is kinds whimsical and not functional.

  32. Rod and I totally agree with you! We looked through the clothing items and thought it was interesting how over-the-top she went. Maybe it's just me, but I don't remember thinking (when I was five), "Let's see how eccentric I can look today!". I like Gwen too, but I think more "normal" looking clothing would be a must in a Target children's line.

  33. i love the plaid for boys... the girls tutu not so much... her baby is adorable though!

  34. I like the little girls outfits. But not so much the boys. The skinny pants/jeans for boys, especially that age, no! Other than that the outfits are cute.

  35. i think these outfits are crazy adorable and i don't have kids. if i did however, there's no shot in hell i'd send them to school in animal ears. i'm not trying to set the poor kid up for bullying.
