here's to Thursday and another exciting post...
well at least i like to think so!
One of my regular reads and favorite bloggers, Nylse,
recently posted about the meaning and reason for Advent
and i thought it was PERFECT to introduce Team Pancakes' version of the Advent Season.
During Advent, we emphasize hope, peace, joy, and love, which God sent with Christ.
HOPE
We have an inheritance reserved in heaven,
a living hope through the resurrection of Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3-5).
a living hope through the resurrection of Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3-5).
PEACE
We will love life and see good days if we turn from evil and do good and if we seek peace,
for the Lord watches over the righteous and hears their prayers (1 Peter 3:10-12).
for the Lord watches over the righteous and hears their prayers (1 Peter 3:10-12).
JOY
We have inexpressible joy even though we have trials
because our faith is being tested and proven genuine.
The end of this faith is the salvation of our souls (1 Peter 1:6-9).
because our faith is being tested and proven genuine.
The end of this faith is the salvation of our souls (1 Peter 1:6-9).
LOVE
We can love one another with a pure heart because we have been born again
through the Word of God which lives and abides forever (1 Peter 1:22-23).
through the Word of God which lives and abides forever (1 Peter 1:22-23).
I came across many different Advent Calendars however none of them spoke to me.
Plus most of them were made with children in mind.
Therefore Mr. Pancakes and i came up with our own way to celebrate Advent season keeping in mind, the sentiments of Hope, Peace, Joy & Love.
We wanted to celebrate each other, our families, neighbors
and of course the birth of Jesus Christ!
We wrote twenty-five secret messages on construction paper,
then we open them on the corresponding day to complete the tasks
and so far they have been great.
So for example:
Dec. 2: Watch the Nativity Story (we started on 2nd of the month)
Dec. 3: What do you love most about your family
Dec. 4: Pancakes
Dec. 5: What are you most thankful for?
Dec. 6: Have a Dance off to the 80s-90s Music (Hammer Time!)
Dec. 7: Dinner at a place we never ate before
It's a little cheesy however it's an awesome way to celebrate Advent
and what the season is all about to Team Pancakes.
Hope, Peace, Joy and Love is all we need in this season!
Question of the Day:
What are doing for the Advent season?

what an awesome idea! We have a Lego advent calendar..ha!
ReplyDeleteP.S. We're having breakfast for dinner, not pancakes but french toast!
I love this! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteSo, so fun!!! I love the idea of creating new traditions as a new family! :)
ReplyDeletethanks for the shout out! we dont have a tradition. i usually wait for the children to come home from college and then the merriment begins. but we keep Jesus in the midst of it all.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, and wish you and Mr. Pancakes a wonderful advent season!
ReplyDeleteDoing something special each week! I did a lot of volunteer work and stuff last month for my monthly resolution.
ReplyDeleteYou know I like counting and advent calendars. This is great you are doing something with the husband. So many couple without children think that those kind of activities are for the children, but there really is always a way to tailor it to any age, any marital status :)
ReplyDeletei love this!!!

This is such a great idea team Pancakes! I can't wait to hear what else you've got lined up. It's so special and I guess gives you some downtime during this mad season!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I Heart Organizing had something similar. Would love to get something going like this. My family was big on traditions growing up but DH's wasn't so trying to bridge the gap especially now that was have a 15 month old. Maybe next Christmas . . .
