Today is the day we begin the Living Our Vows series...
and it's pretty exciting because in our inaugural post,
Darby will be sharing how her and her husband, Phil have been living their vows.
The couple has an AWESOME way to remind themselves daily
of what it means to live their vows and i hope you learn from her as much as i did!
Take it away Darby!

Hi! My name is Darby and I blog over at Life with the Hawleys.
When I first read about Mrs Pancakes doing this series I was over the moon.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading and learning from all of YOU!
My husband, Phil, and I have been married for 4 years on December 29th.
I think everyone must say this, but truly, I can’t believe it’s already been 4 years!
We’re having so much fun!
I think everyone must say this, but truly, I can’t believe it’s already been 4 years!
We’re having so much fun!
Before the Mr. & I got married we knew that we wanted
to include Christ in every aspect of our marriage.
We wanted to be woven together as man and wife,
and completely one with each other and one with Christ.
As a result we opted for non-traditional vows.
We wanted a scripturally based marriage that was pleasing to God,
and to recognize that desire in our vows and covenant to each other.
(Just as a side bar, I’m not suggesting that traditional vows are wrong, or not pleasing to God, I’m simply saying that these vows fit US best.)
I, Darby, take thee Philip, to be my wedded husband,
to have and to hold from this day forward.
I promise to give myself to you, out of love and reverence for the Lord,
to respect and love you with all my heart, as I do myself, until death do us part,
to be concerned about developing Christ-like character above outer beauty,
to develop the gentle and quiet spirit that is God-honoring,
to provide a home where peace, joy, and encouragement can be found,
according to God’s Holy Word, and thereto I give you my promise.

I, Philip, take thee Darby, to be my wedded wife,
to have and to hold from this day forward.
I promise to love you as Christ also loved the Church,
to give myself totally to you as Christ did for us, to set you apart above all women,
to honor, encourage, strengthen, and support you,
in all facets of life, to be the spiritual leader in the home,
to provide an atmosphere, where truth, hope, and love will prosper,
to love you till death do us part, according to God’s Holy Word,
and thereto I give you my promise.

God gave us the rainbow as a reminder that the earth would
never again be destroyed by water (Genesis 9:15-16).
The rainbow is a sign of His covenant to us.
Marriage is also a covenant (NOT a contract)
and the rings worn on our third finger are a sign
for all to see of the promise made between a husband and a wife.
In our house we have our vows, covenant,
framed and posted for a gentle reminder of the day we became one.
I always smile when I walk pass our vows,
thank God for the day, and say a prayer for my husband.
The Mr and I love this reminder of our covenant to each other.
It’s important to remember our vows of course,
but it’s also important to recognize the importance of remembering them.
I’m proud to be reminded of my covenant with my husband on a daily basis,
and I love being reminded of the moment when we became one.

Thank you so much Mrs Pancakes for not only hosting this awesome series,
but also allowing me to contribute!!!

Thank you Darby, this was a fantastic first post for the Living Our Vows series!
And i LOVED the idea of posting your wedding vows as a daily reminder...
and the sacred covenant you share.
Question of the Day:
Like Darby,
Do you have anything in your home that reminds you of your vows?
We have a copy of our marriage certificate on our dresser. I love the idea of having a copy of our vows in our home.

ReplyDeleteThis is a really great series you are doing, Mrs. Pancakes! And I really enjoyed reading about the Hawley's. I am the newest follower of BOTH blogs :)
ReplyDeleteWe, too, chose to have more spiritual vows. I don't have them written down yet. (We are hitting our three-moths-of-marriage mark this Saturday!) but one day soon I'll have to sit down with the wedding video and write down our vows. I really like the idea of having them displayed in our home! :) I'll be back to read about more vows!
We have a framed wedding invitation displayed. Looking forward to more posts for this series!
ReplyDeleteI love this! I don't have anything in our house reminding us of our vows, but I need to!

ReplyDeletePS: I promise I will get that post written. This month is just being totally nuts! So sorry :-(
amazing and inspirational series! enjoyed reading this guest post. thanks, darby and phil!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! We adopted the Jewish tradition of a Ketubah and have ours on display, too. I had a tired morning where I wasn't too happy - I made it a point to read through our Ketubah (which we both signed, and had a friend add artwork to) to give me a renewed spirit. It is truly wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea for a series! I really like everything that Darby wrote and love how they structured their own wedding vows to center around Christ. I'm looking forward to seeing even more from this series!!
ReplyDeletei love darby! she is so sweet. and i have our vows in a print in our house too to provide me a daily reminder of what we pledged to each other that day and each day since then
ReplyDeletesuch a beautiful post :)!
ReplyDeleteok this is totally an AWESOME series! I just love this, especially in today's world where so many take marriage for granted and just take it like a joke. Love this. SO sweet this was ;) Gives me hope!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful...I love the vows!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to frame your vows! I totally gotta do that with ours!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful series and a fabulous couple! It's a great idea to have your vows framed and in a place where you can be reminded of your promises each and every day!
ReplyDeleteAwww what a lovely couple. I am currently married to Mr. Blog and he has not given me a ring of any sorts so we have nothing to remind us of our matrimony.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. =]
ReplyDeleteWhat a great series, and such a touching post! I'm looking forward to reading more from this series!
ReplyDeleteThis was so sweet to read. I can't wait for this day to come for me. I am looking forward to reading more of the series.
ReplyDeleteI'm not married but I LOVE this... it's so important to live your vows daily, to remember how sacred the covenant you entered in TOGETHER is.
ReplyDeleteLove this.
