What To Do With Disappointments?

This is a question I am pondering today
because I had a situation which I wanted to go my way and it didn't.
This, of course, is not the first time I've had a disappointment
but sometimes some disappointments sting a little more than others.

What do you do with disappointments?

Some people take it personally and it rocks their world.
I think of the London Nurse who decided to take her life
when she had a disappointment with a work situation.
Leaving behind children, husband family, colleagues and friends.
I think of the Football player who for whatever reason decided to kill his girlfriend and himself...
leaving behind a three month old daughter.  I am assuming that he was disappointed with something.

These two scenarios are of course a little extreme but that's how some people deal with disappointments...by taking their own lives and the lives  of others.

Some people eat.
Some people cry.
Some people do yoga
Some people keep their disappointments inside.
Some people share their disappointments verbally.
Some disappointments are kept hidden, never to be seen again.
Some disappointments are brushed off...hence JayZ's statement..."brush your shoulders off."
Some people are stuck in their feelings when disappointments occur.
Some people are better than most to deal with disappointments.

I am reminded
however it's in the disappointments and failures in our lives when we grow the most.
When God can turn something negative into something positive.
When He takes you up into his arms to shield you from what you don't know is coming toward you.
When His strength is bigger than your disappointments and failures.
When He can make our disappointments and failures successes.

Sometimes disappointments occur to remind us "we are exactly where we are supposed to be."
Life is not as bad as the disappointment is making it out to seem.
There is something better around the corner for us....
maybe not immediately but always right on time.

We cannot allow disappointments to define our situation in life...
Because it is only but a blip in an otherwise wonderful and amazing life.
And I'm reminded of the powerful phrase, "And this too shall pass."

Question of the Day:
What do you do with disappointments?

  1. I am so use to disappointment that it no longer bothers me. While doing this online magazine I have had so many emails of no I get about 5 or 6 a day from people telling me no they don't want to be in the magazine or no my magazine is not popular so they don't want to do it. For every no there is one person who will say yes and I look for that one person.

  2. I am with you that faith helps. In every instance of my life that didn't 'go my way' I can look back now and see why (and am grateful!)

  3. I'm still trying to figure it out.......

  4. I usually cry... I'm a big cryer. I cannot imagine ever being so disappointed that I'd want to take my own life or someone's else's.

  5. Whenever I fail I try to remind myself of my most-favorite quote. Aristotle said: "If things do not turn out as we wish, we should wish for them as they turn out". In other words, make lemons out of lemonade.
I always think: this failure happened for a reason; something better is supposed to come out of it. I truly believe that everything has a lesson. Although this doesn't always make me feel 100% better about my disappointment, it definitely helps me to move on and look for whatever good there is in the new situation.
    Great topic!! :)

  6. I do a lot of crying and a lot of writing and a lot of rehashing the disappointment with my closest friends.

  7. My mother has been reciting that mantra to me since I was a little girl and having been on my own since 16 I know that its gotten me through a lot of disappointments. "This too shall pass".
I rarely let things disappoint me anymore. I've grown used to the fact that people usually disappoint and things don't always go the way we want. In fact I try to take even disappointments as a blessing because in the end 100% of the time God sends me better or makes me realize why he needed to get that negative person out of my life.

I should say though I don't think the nurse took her life over one disappointment. I think anyone that takes their life doesn't wake up and decide to just take their own life over one event but rather a series of disappointments and events that they were perhaps unable to deal with and so it builds and builds until the culmination of it all is tragic.
