Getting to Know Mom Series Day 13 is all about: What’s the hardest part of growing up?
This is an interesting question because when i was younger, i wanted to be older. Now that i am older, sometimes i wish to be younger. I don't know if growing up is hard as much as it's hard not being able to do the things you were able to do when you were younger.
It's a blessing to grow up because you are getting older and learning new things you didn't know before and knowledge is a powerful thing to have. Therefore, there aren't that many things that make it hard to grow up but I will find a few things...
1. The hardest thing about growing up is not being able to do all the fun things you did when you were younger like waking up late and watching TV without having to worry about going to work, paying a bill and or paying for anything else except for candy and other things you wanted.
2. Also growing up, you lose your innocence which can be difficult because it's wonderful to have a view of the world that really calms you and gives you a sense of peace that you only have when you are young. And once you grow up and learn how the world really functions and how people function...it's definitely difficult getting that back.
3. Growing up can also be difficult because your metabolism is not the same. You can't eat whatever you want and burn it off as quickly as you ate it. You can run and jump and walk around all day and not be tired. I watch you currently and from the moment you wake up until you fall asleep at night...you are walking around, back and forth, playing and playing and you are not tired....at least you don't show any signs of slowing down. And that's a beautiful thing.
I am sure there are more hard things about growing up...but those are the three things i can come up with.
Lesson for Day 13: Enjoy your youth because it's a beautiful but fleeting stage.
I haven't done this prompt yet but I agree with you losing your innocence and metabolism both stink.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I read my old diaries from when I was young and miss my old innocent self!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was told about metabolism just the same way I know I need to sit and talk with someone about menopause before it hits. I miss the summers of being a youth with not a care in the world and yet we just didn't know how blessed we were!
ReplyDeleteSo true! I keep telling my daughter that she should enjoy naps now because when she is older she is not going to have a nap time!
