Sometime last year, i initiated the No-TV Challenge...that was by choice...
my current no-tv challenge is NOT by choice.
Let me explain...
Since we moved, we have been having issues with our
cable/inernet provider and this has been frustrating.
The people that lived in our apartment before did not a
cable/internet connection so in order for us to get it,
the provider had to come out and initiate a connection.
There have been two appointments set and it's almost the end of the month
and NOTHING has been done as of yet.
No connection.
No cable.
No internet.
THIS HAS BEEN FRUSTRATING BEYOND MEASURE.
We've been able to get away without internet by accessing the hotspot on my iphone.
Thank goodness!! But there has been no TV show watching for me.
I didn't realize i was a TV-holic until i didn't have access to TV shows.
I have watched all of Sex and the City DVDs all over again...
Mr. Pancakes is ready to have me committed.
And i am sure Baby Pancakes probably knows too much
about sex from listening to all the shows.
But I just need to have some noise in the house when i come home.
Soon there will be a baby and i won't need TV shows but in the meantime...
i need distraction.
Distractions like music doesn't do it.
And reading hasn't been doing it lately.
It's been a month without watching any of my shows
and you know what i haven't gone completely bonkers.
I do miss HGTV, Suze Orman, Golden Girls
and just random television shows like Saturday nights
Mr. Pancakes and i would watch Boxing on HBO
BUT aside from missing these shows....
i am NOT dying to watch TV shows.
I miss TV shows but i am not dying without them.
Which leads me to think perhaps, maybe
i can live without cable for the rest of my life.
Maybe...i think....
This lead me to ask my fellow bloggers,
Have you gone without cable by choice
or NOT by choice and how have you dealt with it?
i actually don't have cable right now. i haven't really had like real cable for a few years. i'm totally fine with it. am i weird?

I didn't grow up with cable so I never really watched it until a couple of years ago when I started to be home full time. Even now I don't watch tv that much so it's a waste to me but that man of mines will die if he does not have tv. I can live without it myself.
ReplyDeleteprops to you for going without it for so long!!
ReplyDeletei honestly could go without it but i am like you i need some background noise...there are a few staple shows that i like to watch but to be honest i spend the other time watching movies. def a HUGE fan of netflix and the movie channels (i pay extra for :-/ )

Man, that is so frustrating! I don't watch a lot of TV but do have certain shows I enjoy that help me unwind. Connection problems drive me nuts!
ReplyDeleteI probably can live without if I had to but I really dont want to. Taking a break from it is good but sometimes it Can consume your life and you can't get much done.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could live without the internet! But the TV, sure...I could do without it! My hubby, well that's another story! lol!

Oh goodness! Not having internet would be annoying! We cancelled our cable over a year ago and we love it. We still have Netflix and Hulu so we keep up with the shows but we watch them in our own time and not when they're live. It's been nice but I do miss certain channels!
ReplyDeletewe ditched cable because our provider sucked...been gettin' by on netflix and hulu. good luck!!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh no! Never by choice! I'm too addicted and I'm not really ashamed to say it. It's a guilty pleasure and we're all allowed a little of those right? :) xoxo
ReplyDeletepoor lady, i hope you get your dose of tv comes soon :)
ReplyDeleteI've never gone without cable long term by choice or otherwise. I enjoy TV and if that's something I can afford to make my life enjoyable then I'm going to have it. I do need to work on wasting less time on TV but that is a self control issue!
ReplyDeleteI haven't had cable tv in over four years. I keep up to date on a select few tv shows by tracking them online and watching via Hulu, xfinity, or the tv station's website. I find I don't really miss having TV much. Though, when I visit people who do have it, I find myself glued to HGTV, and when I stayed with a friend for a few months with cable, we kept the tv on all the time, just for background noise.
ReplyDeleteI definitely consider cable a non essential expense in my world.
I know I can live without cable. Growing up, we could only watch tv on certain days and only for about an hour! My husband would go crazy without it.
ReplyDeleteI really dont think I could go without tv.
ReplyDeleteI am watching most of my TV on Netflix so I think I can go without cable. My only problem is that I don't want to test it. The day I say to go without is the day I go crazy because I need cable!
ReplyDeleteI've been gone and I from reading this post I see baby on the way? Yayyy! Congrats. I don't watch TV. I don't mind for cable at all, but my husband...that's another story...the man would die without ESPN (ha!)
ReplyDeleteIt's been a whole since I've been without cable! That has to be horrible! But you will still need tv in the house when baby comes- until they get on that sleep schedule you're going to have to have tv noise to keep you up while their up! Lol!!!!
ReplyDeleteI recently cut off service for cable and feel pretty okay about it.
ReplyDeleteCan't do without internet, but for the past 2 years we've been cable free and it's GREAT! I've blogged about it before too. You can find pretty much any show or sporting event online for FREE (without commercials!). DH's years of playing basketball overseas taught him how to stay connected to his fave shows. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI grew up without cable. I think my mom tried cable once and then she saw some late night HBO stuff and quickly turned it off. So, having cable as an adult is my guilty pleasure. I think the longest I've gone without cable as an adult is a week maybe?
ReplyDeleteI've definitely considered this, but quickly get outvoted by the Hubby when it comes to access to his precious sports! ha!
