Secret Newlywed Behaviors: The Sports Fan!

I wanted to share another secret newlywed behavior!

I love watching sports but man they get to my emotions.  I love it when my team is winning! It makes me feel good.  However as soon as they lose, i get sad and blue.  I know, i'm a little too emotional and get invested for all the wrong reasons.

Remember when Samantha (from SATC-Sex and the City) dated that guy that was obsessed with sports and the relationship only worked when his team was winning? Well, i am not that obsessed but i am fairly close (it's never directed at Mr. Pancakes but im sure he gets a brunt of my disappointment).

For example, when the Miami Heats lost against Dallas Mavericks, i didn't want to read or hear anything about the loss at all.  I still haven't read any articles or looked at pictures.  I could be a sore loser but I'm working on it.

This morning i found out that the William sisters have been knocked out of Wimbledon (tennis tournament in London) and i was so disappointed.  Realistically, i know they can't win each tournament.  But i like when they remain in the tournament until at least the end.  Watching sports is not fun, if you are not invested.  I'm invested.  But sometimes to my detriment.

Mr. Pancakes, on the other hand, enjoys watching sports and does not invest in any particular teams too much.  He also does not invest too much emotions into sports.  He becomes disappointed for a few moments but does not dwell on it.  He does not turn off the TV if his team is loses.  He does not avoid reading articles about the loss.  Could be because he played sports himself, i don't know.  But i could learn from him not to be so overly emotionally invested.

I need to continue telling myself, sports is for enjoyment and entertainment and it's meant to be enjoyed, win or lose.  I'm learning to just enjoy sports.

Currently, I'm invested in Rafael Nadal during Wimbledon.  I know he will win.  However, if he does not, i will be upset for only a few moments but then return to enjoying my life as a newlywed!

My kid could become like this if i don't tone down my un-sportsmanship behaviors! And that's not cool!
Ladies, do you have any secret newlywed sports behaviors?

Haha, I had a roomate who was exactly like you, and I was always scared whenever her team lost. I just would get out of her way and not say anything. LOL.

Nick is like your husband. Sometimes I think he'll be upset and he's like, "It's just a game."

Love this post! My husband and I are both sports addicted. He loves football, I love soccer. This past year, my team won the National Brazilian tournament and his won the Superbowl. It's been great hahaha.
We get emotional too. A lot! I think that's one of the things that connects us so much!

My MOM is a crazy sports person. She's not someone who will put something on herself but if a game is on and she's watching she SCREAMS at the TV. It's kind of funny!

I don't understand sports at all. When I was on my college dance team I just cheered when everyone else did ;) Luckily my Husband only checks scores occasionally and doesn't get bent out of shape about them. He'd be a sore loser anyway so I'm so thankful for that!

I love watching certain sports. Football- you bet. Nascar- yep! But my favorite of all time- Worlds Strongest Man competition. I won't miss it.

I am a pretty avid sports fan, but only for a couple of teams. The others I don't really care about haha! But if my teams aren't doing well, I'm certainly not happy!!

Thanks for your sweet comment on my other post!! Yay for us both being newlyweds!

The Mister is a big NBA fan. No, HUGE.
It drives me nuts but I try to check it out from time to time just to share something that he loves.
We've even been to a few WNBA games which I found more enjoyable than NBA because we could afford to sit quite close.

Oh, my goodness that photo of the little boy cracked me up!!! If it's any consolation my husband is a sports fanatic...an absolute Laker fan come hell or high water. And neither one of our sons picked up on his unsportsmanlike behaviors he has displayed over the years when his team or a referee has let him down!

that photo just killed me! luckily for me, i get over it within a few minutes, haha. the only time i don't is when my hubby is playing and they don't win. only reason is because the hubby won't stop talking about it ... if it were up to me, i would forget in a minute, haha.

LOL, my husband is EXACTLY like this! In fact, he will turn off games if his team is losing. When Miami was losing, we had to turn it off! Haha, he has missed a couple of games where his fav team came back and won the game bc of this crazyness!

Oh dear the picture of the little child is shocking. Sorry not an avid sports fan at all. In fact when I married my husband I told him to chose one sport (only one) and I would learn to like that one sport and not complain when it was on TV. I won't allow endless sport TV watching in the house. I find it boring:) Just for the record I limit my HGTV watching for him. Thanks for linking up to the NOBH

I don't watch a lot of sports, but I get emotionally invested when my team is playing. I am coping with my hometown Heat's loss to the Mavs (where I currently live) by acting like it never happened. I stopped watching Serena's match when I knew she wasn't going to win. I also refuse to look at any news about it. I'm sulky like that, LOL!

Girl hubby and I are HUGE heat fans!! I mean huge. We sometimes sit courtside and I am usually the deranged short woman sitting under the basket with a LeBron shirt on screaming at the refs.....we sit on the Heat bench side....the players all know me so well cause once we get there they point smile and wave knowing that I gonna be screaming every bad call and rooting all the way. Don't talk about the loss....I just try not to think about it....I refuse.
