Inspire Me Series: Successful Blogs

11 Go Team Pancakes!

Ashley of Adventures of Newlyweds is sharing with us today
what makes a successful blog in her opinion.
If you don't know about Ashley's blog, here is a little something about her.
She travels the country with her husband for work and takes beautiful pictures too.
Ashley also initiated an awesome link up called: Friday Letters!
Please check her out when you get an opportunity.

 How did you begin blogging?
I started blogging to document my new "newlywed" life!
I started out writing about our everyday lives for our friends and family.
It started growing and I discovered just how big the blog world was!
I had no idea at the time!  From there my blog has involved and grown with me!

What do you believe makes your blog a success?
I believe my blog, and any blog for that matter,
is successful when the writer blogs for themselves and stays true
to why they started in the first place.
I am sure we have all gotten caught ip in the thrill of having followers,
and growing our blogs but now more than ever I realize that its not about that in the slightest.
Even if no one were to come to my blog ever again I would continue doing
it so my husband and our family can look back and remember these special moments.

How do you maintain a balance between living and keeping up with your readers/followers?
Great question!  At first it was easy to comment back to
every single person and do every guest post requested
but once I got a little more traffic I couldn't keep up!
These days I comment back when I can but spend more time reading other blogs.
I have also made great real life friends who I keep up with every day!
I always answer e-mails but I think its important to remind ourselves
that this blog thing is great so we can make some really great friends---
not so you can get thousands of followers.
How realistic is it that you can connect with all of those people anyways?!

Inspire Me Series: Successful Blog

9 Go Team Pancakes!
I wanted to continue the theme of Mom's Week with the
Inspire Me Series: Successful Blogs?

I wanted to share with you what Mommy Mimi of Lipgloss and Binky
has to say about having a successful blog.
If you have not visited Mimi's blog, please do so!
She does an amazing job of infusing her roles as
mother/woman/entrepreneur/community advocate while looking fabulous!
Here's how Mimi answered the three questions.

How did you begin blogging?
I began blogging on a fluke.
After being thrown into my roles as a pregnant housewife turned SAHM
I was longing for an outlet to the outside world
as I adjusted to my life with two children.
A very good friend of mine Erika who blogs at Blulabel Bungalow
had just started her blog and I thought I would give it a whirl and she was more than supportive and even felt pity on me and did my blog header!

What do you believe makes your blog a success?
I'm not really sure if I consider my blog to be successful,
but I think its real and I think that is what keeps people coming back and reading.
I blog my life and my reality. The good and most of the bad.
I'm an open book but there are a few things I will never blog about.
I also think the amount of interaction that I do with my readers helps.
If its not responding to comments left on the blog its engaging on Twitter or on FB.
I truly feel like I know my readers and in some cases
I would go the lengths to help them in their personal life if I can.
The blogging community is amazing if you are genuine and connected.

How do you maintain a balance between living
and keeping up with your readers/followers?
Balance? Call me Janelle Monae I'm always on the tightrope.
There are times when I can't balance and blogging has to chill.
I try to blog on Sundays and schedule my posts and peek in during the week
to respond to comments and read other blogs.
Recently as I am trying to grow a business and keep up with a
busy 2 year old it has been hard. I take the time when I need to.
I never want blogging to not be fun so I don't force it.
I make time, but if it gets hectic I have to put my family first.
I always let my readers know what is going on with me. I hope they understand,
that I'll catch them when things calm down.
I think my track record and my word is good.
At least I hope so!

Inspires Me Series: Erica Diamond

12 Go Team Pancakes!

When i came across Erica Diamond's twitter account, i was completely intrigued to go to her website and then i was inspired to reach out to her for the Inspire Me Series.   She is an award winning Entrepreneur and Business Woman.   She is an author, speaker, radio correspondent, writer and she exudes inspiration and i am so honored to have had the opportunity to speak with her.  Erica is definitely one lady you have to watch out for, she is already a big personality and going to become BIGGER very soon!
She graciously agreed to complete this phone interview with me while
she was waiting to pick up her children from school.
I had to paraphrase her for this interview because i was all over the place while writing with pen and paper.

Whats your name?
Erica Diamond

Where can we find you online?
 www.womenonthefence.com
http://twitter.com/womenonthefence

How and when did the idea for Women on the Fence develop?
At age 24, She started a very successful entreprenuer business which become very successful within seven years.  During this time, she had one baby and another on the way.  She started to struggle with being a successful business owner and motherhood.  It was within this time, she decided to sell her business.  From 2006 to 2009, she stayed home and it was within this time she met another lady who introduced her to the world of blogging.  The concept to create change and make change in people's lives...
she realized she was "on the fence" about what she wanted to to do.
If she was going through this then other women must be going through the same too.

What is Women on the Fence?
In September 2009, she started to get an itch to do something different.
She wanted to inspire herself and other women to get off the fence.
She believes people are constantly working through many different areas in their lives
 including jobs, marriages, motherhood.
She wanted a community where women of diversity could come together and learn from one another.
resonated wtih business and wih

Do you Consider Yourself a Blogger?
She definitely considers herself a blogger and appeared excited to have been introduced to the world of blogging.  She believes there are so many wonderful individuals and networks which can be developed through blogging.

Are you living your dream?
She reports she is living her most "passionate existence."  At 24 years old, she wanted all the awards.
However, she realized years later she did not want a corner office, she wanted to "manage herself."  She wanted to "monetize herself" and wanted to make her life all about the children.

What inspires You?
She reported her two boys, 8 and 5, inspire her.
She said children are always learning and improving which in itself inspires.
Watching people do what they love and are successful.  Individuals like J.K Rowling
who wrote, Harry Potter, a work she was passionate about and believed in it so much.

What's Your favorite Interview?
She responded wtih she loves all the individuals she has interviewed.  However, if she had to choose, Mariel Hemingway, actress and the granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway.  She was intrigued by her family, dark moments in her life and how she has embraced her lifestyle.
Erica has also enjoyed interviewing the Housewives of New York.
She also had fun speaking with Holly Robinson Peete about her career, motherhood and autism foundation.

What are some of the challenges of blogging?
Sometimes not having ideas to blog about.  If she doesn't have any ideas, she doesn't write.
However, usually she is good at generating ideas and content for her website.  She shared she is a "social media junkie" since it's a great way to stay connected.

What does your husband think about what you do?
Erica reported her husband is involved in a family business.
He is involved in the commercial industry.
He is very supported of her and her current endeavors.

How do you make connections outside of the blogging world?
Erica reports you are not going to be successful in the blogging world
if you are sitting behind the desk/computer screen.
It's important to talk to people, be open.
She spoke about the synergy which occurs when bloggers come together.
She attended the Oprah Winfrey Conference in October 2011 which was "game changing."

How do you brand yourself?
Erica spoke about the challenges that comes with branding youself.  However, she has been lucky because she does many things well.  She is not only a mommy blogger, she is a business blogger.
She does not want to be "boxed in."  She wants to use Women on the Fence as a plateform to speak
about all issues and share women's inspiration and sucesses.
She believes people have tried to brand her (box her in) depending on who is spotlighting her.
However, Erica believes it's difficult to blog her because she is her!

How would you encourage other bloggers?
Everything has a time in which it happens.  It's important to find balance in various areas of our lives including mommyhood/business.  It takes a lot of work however it's significant to have boundaries and give everything proper attention.  Erica is a strong proponent of self-care including going to the gym and getting manicures.  She reminded us "not to ignore yourself" and "not to feel guilty to spend time with friends...regroup."

Do you like pancakes?
Erica said she loves pancakes!

What would you do on a longlazysunday?
Erica reported she would sleep in! The grandparents would take the kids and go for a massage.
Sit on the beach, read books and the newspaper and do nothing.
She would drink wine and enjoy silence and quiet with her husband.

Can you tell us about your book?
The book is entitled: 99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before...Starting their Own Business.
She believes all women are entrepreneurs and wanted to create a "coach in a pocket" for women starting their own business.  There are tricks, suggestions and ideas she has used herself.

What advice do you have someone who may be on the fence?
"Always try to live in the moment...when i move out..i get anxious."
Erican reminds us it takes years to become sucessful.
The harder you work the luckier you get.
Family is #1 over everything.  It is difficult to do anything without support.
It's important to thrive for great support system

Where do you hope to see Women On The Fence?
Erica reported she has conquered online, has a radio show and written a book.
She would love to see Women on the Fence on television.
Create your own luck in life.

Inspire Me Series: Stephanie of Infinite Life Fitness

7 Go Team Pancakes!

I can't believe Friday is already here!
Today i am happy to introduce you to Stephanie and her amazing message behind Infinite Life Fitness.  Stephanie is definitely a go-getter and anytime someone makes their life's purpose
to encourage others to live a better life is all good!
I will allow Stephanie to share more about Infinite Life Fitness!

***********************************************************

What's your name?
Stephanie McGrew

Where can we find you online?
and my personal blog is:

What is Infinite Life Fitness?
Infinite Life Fitness is a place you can go to help you make positive healthy lifestyle changes.  Yes it is a health and fitness blog but it is also much more than that! We talk on a wide variety of things to help you in your daily lifestyle.  I have give organization tips as well as recipes and understandable fitness routines.  You can find so many things to help you start a new healthier lifestyle.  Some people want to lose weight but doing that entails so much more.
It is a lifestyle change and a journey.

Where do you hope to take Infinite Life Fitness?
I hope to take Infinite Life Fitness as far as it can possible go. I want to help educate and help people make the best health and fitness choices. Right now i have no intentions of charging anyone any kind of money to help them.  I just want to help them and to allow them the opportunity to improve their quality of life.  I work in the medical field and 1/2 of the patients we see would not be seen so frequently if they would get more active, stop smoking, and just adapt an overall healthier lifestyle.  My goal is to just be there for people who do need help and to be their motivator and guide to help them reach their health and fitness goals.  I want to help change lives and allow people to reach the goals they they have set for themselves.

What motivates you to remain active?
what motivates me is the fact that i have lost several members in my family due to them being obese and over weight.  Their lives would have been prolonged and their lives would have been more enjoyable only if they would have listened to their doctors and got more active and lived a healthier lifestyle.  I don't only do it to make me feel good but
i do it so the sustain the best quality and longevity of my physical life.

What's the one thing you can say to someone to get them to be infinitely fit?
First get a REALISTIC goal in mind.  Most people want to drop 20-30 lbs in a month...not possible.  Getting to your optimal weight and size takes time, patients, and dedication.  You have to start out slow and build up to your goal.  And it is a huge lifestyle change. you have to alter many aspects of your life to where you evolve to become a overall better healthier person.

 Who inspires you?
To be honest the person who inspires me has recently changed. i am inspired by the first lady Michelle Obama.  She has AMAZING style (when it comes to clothes and her over all classiness) and i love her platforms and what she fights for.  I am a HUGE advocate of trying to help diminish child obesity and so is she.  Just seeing her in the news and researching her, she seems to be an amazing woman and i hope that i will be honored
to meet with her and just get to talk to her one day.

I know you are passionate about addressing childhood obesity,
what do you think of Michelle Obama's message to eradicate obesity?
Like i said before i LOVE the fact that someone with higher power than me sees that it is a HUGE problem and it needs to be addressed. i think she is trying to do some great things in our country to help make options available to kids and their families to help get rid of this problem.  You can not blame the kids 100%. The parents also have to step in and want to make a better HEALTHIER life for not only the child but for the whole family.
It is a hard thing to do but in the long run it will be so much more beneficial.

How can families live an active lifestyle?
There are several different ways to get active.  There are a lot of local agencies that offer athletics and seasonal sports to children usually at no cost and if cost is an issue they may have scholarships for the families that need it.  The YMCA is a great place to look.  I currently coach 1-6th grade basketball at my local YMCA and i have a variety of kids with different skill levels.  So even if your child has not proven to be the best athlete they can still play and get their exercise and its a great way for them to meet and interact with other children their age.  You and your family can set up time during the week to go walk or run or do a family boot camp style of workout (there is a post about that on my blog).  You will have to get creative to help keep children's attention and motivation but it is something good to start as soon as possible. It is also very very very important to allow you children the chance to eat healthier foods. i understand the family on the go who may have to stop at a fast food place to get food. But i know McDonald's and other chains allow you to get milk and fruit instead of the traditional fries and coke.  Making these small changes has a HUGE impact over a long period of time.

What words of wisdom do you live by?
One of my favorite motto's is "Live...Laugh...Love" i know that i am just as guilty for not taking enough time out of my schedule for "Me Time". So i have started taking media time outs (no Internet/computer for an allotted amount of days at least once per month) and i will spend that time with family or friends or just having some me time. Life can get crazy and hectic. you have to learn how to handle everything as well as embrace it and
make the best out of any situation you are in.

What message do you have for someone who wants to live their life's purpose?
My message would be to do what you want to do! No it will not be easy at all. But if you work hard enough you can end up where you want to be.  The same goes for health/fitness goals.  To achieve any goal you have in mind it will take dedication and hard work. And when you reach your goal you will be so appreciative because of all the hard work you had put into it to get there.

Pancakes is not always the healthiest breakfast, do you have another healthy alternative?
No pancakes are not the healthiest BUT if you must have pancakes there are tons of things you can change to help make it healthier.  You can substitute fatty ingredients with healthier options...you can cut out the syrup and buttery toppings and switch it with fresh fruit and powdered sugar (to help keep the sweetness but cuts out a lot of the calories!) You can also have other alternatives such as oatmeal...whole grain cereal with low fat milk...fresh fruit with yogurt or 1/2 of a bagel...eggs (egg whites are best but you can toss in one full egg to help with flavor and color) with turkey bacon...there are TONS of options
and i will be sharing such options on my blog.

What do you do on a longlazysunday?
I usually sleep in! LoL But i usually get up around 9 and grab a light snack then do some house work (laundry...straightening up) and then hit the gym for a few hours.  I currently work some weekends so on those days i work i try to wake up earlier so i can get more done and try to enjoy some down time.  Sunday is also my BIG cooking day.  I usually try to cook a few meals so i can have them in the fridge for me to grab throughout the week for lunch or dinner.  I have been traveling a lot and my weekdays are typically pretty busy so if i make a few meals and split up the portion sizes i usually have enough food to last me until the next weekend when i try out some more recipes.  I also take time on Sunday to call/check up on family members and friends. I know that i am busy most weekdays so i try to communication with friends and family open by actually calling them (instead of texting or emailing) and have a conversation with them.  My dad is one person who looks forward to that call and
if i don't call him he is sure to let me know he is upset about it!

Are there any quick health tips you can give?
Portion control is SO SO SO SO SO important.  You have to get familiar with what is the right portion size of food and how frequent you should be eating to get the right amount of daily calories.  You also have to learn some healthier food options instead of you usual chips or coke you snack on.  There are so many tasty, healthy, and non-expensive
options for you to consider when it comes to eating healthier.
Fad diets and diet pills are not recommended and could be dangerous to your health especially if your doctor has prescribed you other drugs! So if you do decide to take
some form of a diet pill please consult with your doctor first.
Other than that if ANYONE has any questions please feel free to take a look around my site.
I have tons of information and resources available.
Readers are also encouraged to contact me via
email with any questions or help they may need.

***********************************************************

Thank you Stephanie.
I would highly encourage everyone to check out Infinite Life Fitness
and all the amazing resources and information she has to offer on her website.
I've already learned a few alternatives to eating pancakes all the time.
If you have fallen off the fitness and health wagon since you made your New Year's resolution, visit Stephanie and gather all the information you can get!

Inspire Me series: Ashley

17 Go Team Pancakes!
With Twenty-Twelve (2012) around the corner
i wanted to share with you someone who totally inspires me!

Ashley is the brainchild behind the Shine Project...and when you visit her blog,
you cannot help but smile at all the amazing things she is doing for youth in need.
And she is uber creative too.  Most of you have probably come across her shine necklaces.
Although she does not like eating pancakes...she inspires me because of how she lets her light shine in the lives of so many people!  And she is always fashionable while doing so!

____________________________________________

Whats your name?
Ashley LeMieux...Like Le -Moo- Ew  ;)

Where can we find you online?

How and when did the idea of the Shine Project develop?
TSP developed in January when I chose a word for my year...
The word I chose was Shine.
My goal was to be motivated to have an outstanding year,
and I figured that others could probably benefit from it to.
So, I started a blog to give inspiration.
Now we raise money for inner city high school students and it has become a non profit.

Why the Shine Project and not another name?
To shine means to stand out, to glow, to light up darkness...
There's no other word to describe my goal.

What exactly is the Shine Project?
The Shine Project is a movement to inspire people around the world
to go after their goals by getting rid of fear and making things happen.

Where do you hope to take the Shine Project?
Im in the process of creating The Shine Scholarship Project.
It's mission is to improve the lives of at risk youth through education, service, and family involvement.
It's a non profit, and I've put my heart and soul into building it up.

What is the Change4Change Campaign?
Its a way to raise money for inner city high school kids.
You can pledge to keep a jar, and when you get a $100, send it in to the scholarship fund!

How can people support the Shine Project?
Pledge a change jar, and spread the word about The Shine Project through social media!

Who or what  inspires you on a daily basis?
I get inspired by everything. Looking around at different people,
seeing what they need...
People inspire me more than anything.

Are you living your life's purpose?
Yes, I definitely feel that I am.

Your Shine necklaces are sort of famous in blogland..
what's the story behing the necklaces?
I made my first shine necklace to give to a widow almost a year ago.
She LOVED it, and said, You need to sell these! I thought, hey, lets give it a try! :)
 And the rest was history!

Where can we get the shine necklaces?
You can see and get them here!

What are the Shine Events?
Shine events are events that I plan to get people involved.
This year we had an event at a womens shelter in Phoenix,
a beach clean up in San Diego,
and a huge charity event in October to raise scholarship money.
They will be spreading across the country this year, so look out for one in your city!

What is the Vintage Shine Shop?
I LOVE thrifting and finding amazing things for cheap.
I sell my finds at reallly low prices so you can look fabuless in vintage wear too!

Do you like pancakes?
No! I actually hate them!

What would you do on a longlazysunday?
My sundays consist of church for three hours (I'm LDS) then coming home
and hanging out with my husband and dog, followed by dinner at my parents.
Same thing, every week!

What advice do you have for someone that wants to live their life's purpose?
Go for it. What do you have to lose?
You can spend the rest of your life wishing for something,
or take a step out of your comfort zone and just do it.
And, my friend, I know that you can do it.

____________________________________________

Thank you Ashley! And you are so right about going for it and just doing it.
That message definitely resonated with me and i hope it did for you too lovely readers.

It's AMAZING what Ashley has been able to accomplish with her Shine Project in one year.
We can do so many things IF and WHEN we chose a goal and work toward it.
Now ladies go and shine your light in the direction of your goals!

Question of the Day
How are you turning your goals into your life's purpose in 2012?

Inspire Me Series: Thanksgiving Edition

16 Go Team Pancakes!

Happy Tuesday Friends!

I thought i would do a special Inspire Me Series: Thanksgiving Edition with the lovely and uber artistic/creative Marilyn...seriously if you don't know her...WHY?! because she makes some of the most amazing and thoughtful things EVER! She inspires me on a daily basis to be more creative and just live myr passion in every thing i do.  I am overly excited she agreed to share a little about herself
and some of the ways we can be creative this Thanksgiving Day!

___________________________________________________

Hello friends, my name is Marilyn from next door over at The ArtsyGirl Connection
I am really excited and truly honored to be here sharing with you all today.
It's totally a privilege as I LOVE Mrs. Pancakes and her fun inspirational posts
and admire her faith in love, marriage, trust in God,
and focus on so much positivity that she shares here in her lovely part of the blog world.
Thanks for having me here today Mrs. Pancakes...

A little about me....
I am a mommy to two beautiful little one's, engaged to my very best friend
and a bit of  a craft junkie. I love photography and cooking when I can
(I'm not that great but when I focus, cooking isn't so bad, lol.).
I can be the biggest dork but those that love me don't seem to mind...
Hope you can join me sometime and share in my artsy fun rants and raves sometime.

Have you always been a creative person?
I can't say specifically I've always been creative, I've mostly been organized,
I was the OCD child who couldn't get chocolate on my hands for too long,
let alone on my sweater. Haahaa
I would have to say, in an attempt to get better at my OCD habits living at home with all boy's,
I stumbled upon a creative aspect to life at home.
I got better and better as I got older and when my children came along.
I've always had my own style, my own little twists to what makes me ME
and that has developed much into inspirational creativity over the years.

What motivates you to be creative?

A lot of my motivation to craft really stems from having a home and my children.
My favorite things to create are home goodies and crafts for my kids.
I absolutely LOVE the feeling I get when I'm asked "where did you purchase this
or that" in terms of decor in my home or item's I made for the children,
and can smile and say "oh, I made it"!! LOVE IT!!
Its really beyond rewarding to know that something I created out of love
was found good enough to be featured in a store and someone took a minute to mention it.
That's inspiration and confirmation in every way possible to my love
for sharing and giving a bit of myself through my creativity.

A huge part of why I love to craft also has to do with my business "Plus Events"
I don't tend to feature too much of it on my blog
but it's a little business I have dedicated to weddings.
To date, I've been able to put together four weddings successfully.
I enjoy every bit of being able to have a bride and groom walk into each event
(ceremony or reception) and fall in love all over again
with their vision and be happy that what they wanted for their special day
was exactly executed and made their day just that much more perfect.
It's rewarding, it's motivating, it brings upon happy emotions for me,
that I shared in their experience and they will forever
be able to remember the intricate details I took a minute to add to their requests.
I sincerely stay humbled when asked to decorate for special events no matter how small.
Being a part of making someone’s day special means so much to me.

My GF's wedding i put together last year.

Projects and causes close to my heart inspire me
and allow for me to find creative means to give back or share
and bring forth awareness in little ways to help other's.
I am inspired by various crafty mom's, awesome and inspirational blogger's like Mrs Pancakes and the likes.
I draw inspiration from all around depending on my day.
The web can be a wonderful place to get lost at times. : ))

What's your favorite craft to do during Thanksgiving?
This thanksgiving, my favorite crafts have been crafts focused on creative way's to give back,
and to show thanks and appreciation to the ones closest to me
and surprising the unexpected loved ones around me.
One of my favorite things I created this thanksgiving was my Thankful Turkey
I loved the idea of having a turkey featured within our home that we can all take a moment to feather with a thankful note for something we appreciate this season.
We extended feather's to friends and family stopping in to stuff in their notes of thanks and share in ours.
I even took a fun moment to feature some "thankful for bloggy bff's"
on a  feather with some of my favorite blogger's around.
It was a really cool project that the kids, my friends and family enjoyed being able to participate in.

This year, I made a "Thankful Turkey" with the children that was so adorable and meant a lot.
They got to add thankful feather's with notes and what they where most thankful for and we placed it in our kitchen. We all add to it here and there as the month goes by and we will take a minute to read our notes this thanksgiving after dinner: ))

Another project I worked on this season I loved was about giving.
I really enjoyed giving back to my neighbors and to the troops.
A great and frugal way to give this season is creating little treats
you can Jar up and deliver with little notes to show appreciation for your family and friends.
I have the best neighbors and created some "Autumn in a jar" goodies with thankful notes for them.
It was really easy, cheap and absolutely warming
and fun to see how much they enjoyed them.

You can also give back this season via creative and inspirational projects
Sparing literally about five dollar's, you can send the troop's some fun
Christmas cards with touching and heart warming notes to show appreciation
and let them know they matter and remain close to our hearts.
Take a moment and get involved if you can...
Although small, it felt awesome!

I sincerely appreciate you all taking a moment to indulge in a bit about me.
I would love for you to stop in sometime and say hello.
I love new artsy friends and will be very thrilled to come on over, visit and indulge in a bit about you too.
Thanks SO much Mrs. BEAUTIFUL Pancakes for having me here today.
Wishing you all an amazing THANKSGIVING SEASON...
Gobble Gobble & Give Thanks..
